Alco Mikado 786

Alco Mikado 786 on Brushy Creek trestle near Cedar Park, TX, August 1999, posing for Lower Colorado River Authority 2000 calendar shot.  This was the last outing for 786.  A crack in the left power cylinder / boiler saddle casting Is presently under repair.  All donations to the Austin Steam Train Association for this project will be gratefully appreciated.

EMD GP 8 diesel locomotive

Professor Pearce as “fireman” (cab window) on Trans-Global-Solutions 1808, one of the locomotives substituting for 786 until repairs are completed.  1808 is an EMD GP-8 locomotive, ex-Illinois Central (a so-called “Paducah Rebuild”).  The picture (photo credit Ross Craven) was taken at Gracy Farm Lane near Austin, TX.

Prof. Pearce stepping down from the cab of Austin & Texas Central Railroad Mikado #786.  The engine is ex Texas & New Orleans (i.e. Southern Pacific) MK-5 Mikado built in 1916 by the Brooks Works (Dunkirk NY) of the American Locomotive Company (ALCO).  786 is operated by the Austin Steam Train Association Saturdays & Sundays from Cedar Park to Burnet TX.  He is a fireman and brakeman as a volunteer employee of the A&TC railroad.  (Photo: Logan A.
